Using ILOG Discovery features in your application

ILOG Discovery has been designed from the start as an interactive software component. As such, it provides a library and a documented API which let you integrate features such as views, commands, predefined dialog boxes, and various interactive tools in any sort of Java program. Besides the API, you can define and integrate many of the visual data analysis features provided by ILOG Discovery using the interactive application only, exporting such features into a project which will be loaded by your program with minimal coding. This provides ready to use visual data analysis and data editing features, without programming.

Depending on the level of integration you want to provide to your users, there are three main ways to integrate visual data analysis features to your information systems:

• Without programming, you can deploy and customize the standard ILOG Discovery applet: define your data sources and main view types using the application, then create a web page in HTML that embeds the standard applet, and customize it specifying which actions, interactors and degree of customization you want to provide end-users: this lets you share findings and create rich dashboards without a single line of code.

• With minimal programming based on the samples provided, you can write your own extensions to the interactive application, such as custom data readers or new actions and interactors, or write your own full application, java applets or java webstart application, by extending and customizing the provided application skeleton. This lets you create specific applications dedicated to your data analysis needs, and allows direct input from your data sources.

• For best integration, all of ILOG Discovery features can be used on a per-feature basis in a larger Java based application. This lets you enhance your application's features set with unique data analysis capabilities, at a minimal cost.

The API and its documentation are currently available for free, to potential customers or selected academics. If you are ready to commit some resources to evaluate the interactive ILOG Discovery software component, assess its potential within your application context, and possibly integrate its features in your application, please tell us at discovery-preview@ilog.fr . Please describe your business background, your position within your firm, the potential uses for the API as well as the type of resources you would be ready to commit to evaluate and use the API. We will ask for a standard non-disclosure agreement in exchange for the current documentation and samples.
